This past week Secretary of State Wes Allen announced that he is running for the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor in the 2026 GOP primary. Allen has a proven track record through his time as the Probate Court Judge for Pike County, as the state representative for the 89th district and as SOS for listening to the concerns of his constituents and advocating for the people of Alabama. In light of the momentous news of his candidacy, Allen took the time for an exclusive interview with the Examiner regarding his vision for our state and how his new role as Lieutenant Governor could help bring that to life.

Asked about the process that brought him to this weighty decision, Allen remarked,

"I am incredibly proud of the work we have accomplished in the Secretary of State’s office. From cleaning up our voter rolls to creating and launching the most effective voter integrity database in the country to ensuring that business owners across our state have their needs met efficiently and effectively. The Lt. Governor seat will be an open seat in the 2026 election and I believe it is time for me to take my record of conservative, effective leadership to that office.”
“I received a lot of encouragement from friends and supporters across the state but when you choose to run for office, that is ultimately a family decision. My wife, Cae, and I have been married for 25 years. We met at the University of Alabama when I was on the football team and she was the head Crimsonette. She has been right there beside me for the past 2 ½ decades and she has been my biggest supporter. We are proud of the life we have built and the best reflection of that life is our two wonderful children, Davis and Dee. They are both in their 20s now and we could not be more proud of the strong, Christian adults they have become."

Ensuring the integrity of Alabama elections has been a hallmark of his tenure as Secretary of State, asked about how he would continue to advance that cause in his new role as Lieutenant Governor Allen responded;

Election integrity has been a priority my entire career. As Probate Judge of Pike County, I spent almost a decade as the county’s elections official and administered more than a dozen elections. As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives I served as the Vice-Chair of the Constitution and Election committee and I sponsored and passed several key pieces of legislation that strengthened our elections process. As Secretary of State, I came into office, Alabama's voter roll was a bloated mess. I am proud of the fact that we have been able to complete the hard work it took to create a program resulting in a more accurate voter roll. My focus on continuing to keep our elections secure and in fighting the liberal agenda will continue if I am elected to serve our state as Lt. Governor.

Neighboring states such as Georgia, Tennessee and Florida have experienced unprecedented economic growth in the last several years. Asked about his bold vision for how Alabama can take part in that prosperity, Allen noted;

The strength of businesses, large and small, is important for the economic health of our state. In Pike County, where I served as Probate Judge, we were proud to have Kimber, a pistol manufacturer, relocate their operations to Pike County from their former location in upstate New York. By promoting Alabama as somewhere that is a great place to live, work and raise a family, we can recruit even more large companies into our state.
We must, however, ensure that we do not lose sight of creating an environment that promotes the American Dream, one in which small business owners and entrepreneurs can be confident that their role as the drivers of our state’s economy are not overlooked. Finally, we absolutely must not forget our state’s largest industry, agriculture. The hardworking men and women who farm our land and provide our food should always be at top of mind.

Sharing a special message for the folks in East Alabama and across the state, Allen remarked;

“The past four years have been difficult for the American people as we have seen our economy tank, our borders overrun by illegals and prices skyrocket. Now, we see things turning around because of President Trump’s common sense leadership. Now more than ever, we need conservative leaders in elected office that can be effective on the state level to counter liberal policies. My track record is crystal clear and I will stand up against any efforts to impose a liberal agenda on our society, our children and our businesses. I’ve done so by leading the way on conservative legislation and eliminating red tape and wasteful spending, saving Alabama taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. That is what I will continue to do as Lt. Governor.”
